The US has written off Kobani where an ISIL-instigated genocide is under way, a historian tells Press TV. Webster Griffin Tarpley an author and historian from Washington told Press TV in an interview Monday that US Secretary of State John Kerry “is essentially saying that he has written off Kobani.” “That is tantamount to condoning genocide because what ISIS (ISIL) is planning in Kobani is known to all authorities and any reasonable observer, there can be no doubt that would be a colossal blood bath; and that might make Secretary Kerry vulnerable to charges on human rights violations of somehow being an accessory in genocide.” The comment comes as photographs, published by the Middle East Review of International Affairs (MERIA) on Sunday, show that the bodies of three Kurdish fighters were not damaged by bullets, but were marked by burns and white spots without any visible wounds suggesting that the ISIL could possess chemical arms. Syrian envoy to the United Nations, Bashar Jaafari, told a UN committee on Friday that Ankara and Riyadh are involved in giving chemical weapons to the militants. Tarpley said he is convinced that the United States could save the strategic Syrian border town of Ain al-Arab, also known as Kobani, from the threat of genocide. “In Operation Desert Storm [in 1991], the US and the coalition were launching 3,300 sorties per day against Iraq. Today it's about 30 against the ISIS forces – one / one hundredth of the effort made, then. Certainly they would be able to get that up and prevent a genocide in Kobani,” he said The United States and its allies started airstrikes against the ISIL in Syria last month. However, there is a growing concern over the effectiveness of the military operation with many Kurdish officials saying the air raids are not working.
